Parkinson's Law

Any task will expand to fill the time available for it.

Why it matters

Long forms and open-ended processes take longer than they need to.

How to use it

  • Set an expected time, such as "takes 2 minutes".
  • Autofill what you already know.
  • Remove steps that do not earn their place.

Example

Checkout with saved details finishes well below the time people expect, which feels delightful.
